5 Questions To Ask Before Booking Your Beauty Team

When it comes to your wedding day, you not only want to feel beautiful but look your very best, too! That’s why it’s important to find a professional beauty team you trust to help you feel your best! The Crystal Coast is full of talented artisans but where do you start? Most beauty professionals offer both hair AND makeup, while others specialize in one or the other. Regardless of whether you book them separately or together, Reign Beauty is helping us break down the most important questions to ask in your initial consultation. These five questions will ensure that there are no surprises on the day of your wedding, so you can focus on what really matters - celebrating the love between you and your partner.

How much time do we need for X amount of people?

If you know the size of your wedding party, let your beauty team know as soon as possible. That way they can give you an idea of what the getting ready timeline will look like. This will help ensure you stay on schedule and everyone feels their best when it’s time to walk down the aisle. Don’t forget to add moms, grandmothers, and flower girls to your count!

How many stylists will I have?

Depending on how big your wedding party is, you may need a makeup artist that works with one or more assistants. Many beauty teams vary in size so be sure to ask how many stylists you will have on your wedding day. An artist that has a team can make you the priority and have their assistants work on the rest of your party. It will also minimize the time it takes for everyone to get ready.

Are there any additional fees I should be aware of?

If you have a large wedding party, it's worth looking into how a makeup artist charges. Your beauty team may have additional fees outside of the contract for things like an additional artist(s), touch-up time, early-bird fees, and more. Logistics like how they charge, the payment method they prefer, and when they expect payment should also be discussed early. Don’t be afraid to ask this question or read through the contract before booking. That way, there are no surprises on the day of your wedding.

Does my package include a consultation/trial?

A trial will give you the opportunity to communicate exactly what type of makeup look you want for your wedding day. You may discover that the hairstyle you had in mind doesn’t work well with your particular hair type or maybe the makeup color palette you were considering doesn’t look as good as you expected. This is the time to be honest with your beauty team. Speak up if there’s something you don’t like! A trail will also allow you to see firsthand how your makeup artist works and gain an understanding of how long your look will take—an important factor for scheduling on your wedding day!

How far in advance should I book my ideal hair and makeup team?

If you have your heart set on a certain hairstylist or makeup artist, it’s never too early to reserve your date! Many artists recommend booking 9-12 months before your wedding date. Beauty professionals with several stylists on their team can often accommodate multiple weddings per date, so it may be possible to reserve your pick 3-6 months out from your big day. We don’t recommend cutting it too close, though – have someone booked by 3 months out!
